The Lukaskirche is an emergency church designed by the architect Otto Bartning. It was inaugurated on December 10th, 1950.
The Bartning-Notkirchen were a church building program of the Evangelical Church in Germany, which was financially supported by the World Council of Churches in Geneva.
This was intended to remedy the lack of church services after World War II. The Lukaskirche is the 38th of a total of 48 emergency churches in Germany.
