Bischofswerda only had around 1,600 inhabitants in 1813, but the city was, among other things, at the center of hard fighting between the Napoleonic troops and the allied armies from May 11th to May 12th. In the evening of May 12th, the great city fire broke out, presumably through the negligence of French troops. Within the curtain wall, the fire spared only three houses on the city wall.

The Saxon Way of St. James, among other routes, passes through here.

      Info:

In May 1813, Bischofswerda was at the center of fierce fighting. On the evening of May 12, a major fire broke out, presumably caused by carelessness. In the city center, only three houses and the fortified fortress on the city wall were spared.

It's not a memorial, just an information plaque about the Battle of Bischofswerda in May 1813.

The obelisk is located a few meters to the right, toward Bischofswerda, in the front yard of a residential building.
