Like all other important buildings, the town hall in Neustrelitz is located on the central market square.
April 11, 2021
The first town hall - a baroque half-timbered building - was bought in 1755. It served as city, court and town hall and it also received a half-timbered tower. It was demolished in the 19th century for a new town hall building.
The second town hall was built between 1841 and 1843 according to plans by Schinkel's student Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel. The two-storey solid plaster building in the style of classicism has three parts on the market square side. The central avant-corps is opened on both floors by round-arched pillar arcades and is closed off by a mighty balustrade. Vertical, two-story pillar templates as pilasters structure the house.
After just a few years, the town hall was expanded towards Strelitzer Straße. The house partially burned down in 1891, but was rebuilt unchanged.
