The 'Motte van Stakenborg', located along the wooden footpath in the De Spicht nature reserve, is considered the oldest village center in Lubbeek.

The remains of this early medieval fortification were again made more visible by the Lubbeek nature point. A beautiful information board was designed and installed in collaboration with Regional Landscape Noord-Hageland vzw.

In the Molenbroek, which is part of the nature reserve ‘De Spicht’, you walk on the boardwalk along the motte ‘Stakenborg’.

The Stakenborg is probably originally a medieval fortification. During excavations in 1880, remains of a wooden windmill were found, which indicates that the area used to be more open. After all, windmills were located in places where they could catch the maximum wind.

The Molenbroek owes its name to the former watermill. The many sources in the area provide pure water in the Molenbeek. The old swamp forests that are present guarantee a high natural value with beautiful spring flora. The adapted management by Natuurpunt is restoring the rich variety of plants and animals in this nature reserve.
