The Dachhollander mill was built in the 18th century, and was operated by wind power until 1922, later with electric motor. After decommissioning, it was used as a residential building. During the Swedish period in Anklam was also a court in the miller's house.

The mill - mostly referred to as Schwedenmühle or Wesselsche Mühle - was built in 1728 and closed in 1920. In the meantime, given over to decay, the Förderverein Schwedenmühle Anklam e.V. has been taking care of the restoration and maintenance of the mill since 2006.
