The church in Vinelz, Fenis in French, (Canton of Bern) is of Romanesque origin. It was first mentioned in 1228. In the 14th century, the existing aligned choir was built as an extension of a smaller choir.

Fragments made of sandstone and Neuchâtel stone remain from late Gothic windows. The baptismal font in the choir dates from the 13th century. In 1667 the roof structure and ceiling were renewed and the choir wall was raised. The pulpit and choir stalls date from the 17th century.

There are also wall paintings that were whitewashed during the Reformation around 1530. They come from different eras and partially overlap.

Baroque tendrils run as a frieze through the entire church and decorate the still existing Romanesque high windows. The three modern stained glass windows were created during the last renovation in 1951.

The progenitor of the Counts of Neuchâtel and Nidau, Ulrich von Fenis or Ulrich the First, resided in the Hasenburg near the village in the 11th century. There are no remains of the Hasenburg today.

However, his two sons left something behind: Kuno von Fenis, Bishop of Lausanne (1093-1103) is the founder of Erlach Abbey (or the St. Johannsen Monastery), Burkhard von Fenis, Bishop of Basel (1072-1105), built the castle Erlach and maybe the church in Vinelz.
