Hiking

A relatively young border runs here. For centuries one was here in the middle of the Electorate of Mainz. Its eastern part with Aschaffenburg then fell (after intermediate steps) to the Kingdom of Bavaria after the Congress of Vienna in 1815. In 1866, however, the German-Austrian War brought about further territorial changes and so part of the old Kurmainz was separated here and incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia, which had also incorporated the neighboring Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel. Therefore, the state border between Hesse and Bavaria runs here today.
