The Parliament of Lower Saxony meets here. Heated debates and exciting decisions take place here.
February 6, 2021
The state parliament is housed in the Leineschloss, a classicist palace complex that served as the residence of the kings of Hanover until 1866. After the destruction by the air raids on Hanover during the Second World War, the palace was rebuilt from 1957 to 1962 and was given a plenary hall on the eastern side, the design of which came from the Hanoverian architect Dieter Oesterlen. From 1947 to 1962, the state parliament of Lower Saxony, founded in 1946, met in a side wing of the Hanover city hall. Since around the year 2000 there were plans to modernize and expand the plenary hall of the state parliament in the annex by Dieter Oesterlen. The state parliament building was reopened on October 27, 2017.

During the plenary sessions, you can observe parliamentary work from the visitors' gallery. During a guided tour or an open evening for visitors, you have the opportunity to take a detailed look behind the scenes of your state parliament. Very special formats are offered for children and young people. Some visits can also be booked in English.
