Since 1949, residents of Ghent have been able to relax in the Queen Astrid Park on the Lousbergskaai, near Portus Ganda.
The almost 1 hectare park includes a lawn, a play area for children aged 3 to 8 and a small pond.

The park was created after a fusion of two gardens: the domain of Villa De Groote and the property of Piers de Raveschoot.
Architect J.B. Pisson built the empirical Villa De Groote in 1793. The owner has created a beautiful pleasure garden around the villa with typical English landscape elements. A pond and a Robinson Island, romantic winding paths and large trees full of character filled the park.
The villa has been a protected monument since 1990. Currently it is the home base of the Green Service of the City of Ghent.
