The exposed quarry in Scheidwald near Otterberg is an almost 20 meter high red sandstone wall, from which sandstone blocks used to be broken to build houses. The sandstone had been lying fallow since the 1950s, until the idea arose to integrate the quarry into the Hinkelsteinweg of the Otterbach-Otterberg community. The exposed and secured former quarry has been open to the public since 2020 and enhances the experience character of the Hinkelsteinweg.
