The entire mine was built in the immediate vicinity of the historic post mill on the Mühlenberg in 1960/62. It is the westernmost coal mine in the Ruhr mining industry. In 2001 operations were stopped and the shaft was filled.
In February 2015, the headframe, shaft hall and winding machine house were entered into the city of Kempen's list of monuments because they are important for human history and the development of working and production conditions.
The owner is Ruhrkohle AG.
