Due to the increasing demand for drinking water, spring water had to be transported to the elevated tank on the eastern slope of the Hutberg, for this purpose a triple combined medium-pressure heureka ram system was built in 1905. This pumped the water into the elevated tank at Scheffler's nursery until 1920. In 1929, due to the construction of the Eselsburg waterworks, the hydraulic ram was shut down. After the fall of the Wall, it was possible to save the facility from complete ruin and was extensively renovated as a technical monument.
