This Romanesque-style church in the town of Bouderath (Diocese of Aachen) was dedicated to Saint GERTRUD of NIVELLES. In the Rhineland vernacular, she is known – and this is not meant disrespectfully – as the “mouse saint”, as she was invoked in the Middle Ages against those pests that were always in the habit of helping themselves to the food supplies in the house and barn.

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Gertrud in Bouderath is a hall building with a west tower, choir and transept-like extension. The oldest parts of the church - the two lower, unarticulated floors of the west tower - are Romanesque (12th/13th century), the third tower floor was built in 1838, the fourth floor was added in 1905. The quarry stone wall of the cemetery that once surrounded the church is still half preserved. Source: kuladig.de/Objektansicht/KLD-344985
