Today's city museum was built in 1565 as a shooting club outside the city gates. Until the end of the 18th century, it housed the shooting club, which practiced target shooting on the open space behind the house. The planked half-timbering dates back to the conversion to a residential building in 1889.
Today, the house brings Nürtingen's history to life: traces of Roman antiquity, the development from the late Middle Ages onwards, and the history of crafts and industry in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Built as an old rifle house in 1565 at the gates of the city. Renovated in 1889, acquired by the city in 1984 and converted into the city museum in 1990/91. This opened in 1995. You can see craft and industrial culture, Hölderlin and Nürtingen, the city's history and special exhibitions again and again

In the Nürtingen shooting house from 1565, the permanent exhibition takes visitors on two and a half floors of the city's history, traces the rocky path from a craft town to an industrial town and creates encounters with one of Nürtingen's most famous citizens, Friedrich Hölderlin. Several times a year, special exhibitions highlight special events, people and places from Nürtingen's history and invite families to explore.
