The young Munich artist Mathias Gasteiger quickly became known in 1895 with the Brunnenbuberl fountain. The naked boy caused a sensation, but all attempts, partly from the highest point, to cover his nakedness failed. So he is still a symbol loved by the Munich people for their life-oriented nonchalance. Incidentally, the fountain is officially called "Satyrherme with boy" and originally stood in a green area on Stachus. It has only been in its current location on Neuhauser Strasse since 1971.

The Brunnenbuberl, also known as the Gasteigerbrunnen, was installed for the first time on September 22, 1895 behind the large kiosk at the Stachus in one of the green spaces along the Sonnenstraße. Today it is located at the west end of Neuhauser Straße. The fountain tub was made of Enzenau limestone. In the early days of its existence, the fountain was in the small green spaces on Sonnenstrasse, right next to the 3rd display window of the Obletter toys, surrounded by chestnut trees and low bushes. The surrounding lawn was bordered by the small, about 40 cm high edge fences known from the English garden. In the background, the viewer always had the Palace of Justice and the former magnificent tram station house on Karlsplatz in view.
