The Michelfeld moated castle in its current form was built by the Lords of Gemmingen in 1758 on the spot where a previous building existed from 1522 until the Thirty Years War (this previous building was probably destroyed by fire in 1634/35 and rebuilt in 1665).
The von Gemmingen family lived in the property until 1911, and it has been privately owned since 1975.
Today the estate is used as a restaurant, hotel and event location.
