The observation tower was inaugurated in 1894.

In the early 1960s, the tower had to be closed due to weather damage that was not repaired. It wasn't until 1973/74 that extensive renovations were completed, and the tower was reopened to the public. At that time, it was officially named the Kuhbergturm.

The 21-meter-high observation tower has a square base with a length of 10.5 meters. On top of this stands the tapered, round tower, at the top of which is a massive tower head with a viewing platform. The broad sides of the Kuhbergturm correspond to the cardinal directions.

The final ascent is still via a narrow ladder.

Entry to the gate is via a turnstile. The entrance fee is one euro per person.
