Netzschkau Castle is located near the market opposite the church
February 25, 2024
Netzschkau Castle was built around 1490 and was one of the first castles in Saxony. Caspar von Metzsch, who had a great influence on the Saxon court, was the builder of the unfortified residential palace.
It changed hands several times and was a multi-wing complex until the middle of the 20th century. However, this had to be demolished due to dilapidation, so that only the present-day castle, originally built by Metzsch, remained. Netzschkaus has owned the building since 1944. After the death of the last owner, Countess Frida von Schönburg-Hinterglauchau (1864–1943), the city acquired it for 100,000 Reichsmarks.

The castle is listed and stands a little above the city in the castle park. The castle church can be admired opposite the castle.
