The bear oak or bear whale oak is an approx. 600 - 700 year old oak. It is about 30 meters high, the trunk has a circumference of a good 5 m. An impressive old lady.

The so-called bear forest oak, also bear oak, is a pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) in Freudenberg near the town of Niederholzklau. The tree standing in the forest is around 650 years old, around five meters in circumference and around 30 meters in height. It has been protected as a natural monument since 1988.

The oak was first mentioned in 1453. It was severely damaged by a lightning strike in 1990: the bark of the tree was removed from the trunk over a length of around 20 meters. Parasite infestation was the result. In order to preserve the tree, restoration measures were taken and the soil was inoculated with mycorrhizae from 1993 to improve the tree's uptake of nutrients.

The branch to the bear oak is not marked separately.
