A well worth seeing ground monument in a historical place. A border crossing of the 'Kölschen Heck's', a fortification from the late Middle Ages between Nassau and Kurköln.

Former border at the "Kölschen Heck". The border stone from 1690 still stands on the border itself. Upstream of the major border crossings through which well-traveled trade routes led, there were upstream entrenchments behind which soldiers camped to protect the border. In some places the ravine was only so wide that, for safety reasons, only a wagon could pass. The hedge itself was secured with ditches, walls, and impenetrable branches and thorns several meters wide. The trees did their job at the barriers themselves. Many surnames in the population still bear witness to this activity.

@Claudia, there was already a highlight here too. Creating duplicates doesn't really help. :-)

Historic border crossing "Holzklauer Schlag" on the former Nassau-Orange / Chur-Cölln border. This over 100km long border was set again after tough negotiations that started in 1688. The boundary stones were then set until 1690.
The passages along the border were called "beats" (turnpike). The "Bäumer" (who opened and closed the barrier) did their job on these blows. Other strikes in our area were the "Big Blow" near Hohenheim, the Ohrndorfer blow, the Oberheeser blow, the cat or and the Crombacher blow.
