Historic border crossing!
The Hohlweg led directly from the former Customs House Niederholzklau as a high trail to Oberholzklau and then to the "Holzklauer Schlag", a border crossing point in the Nassau country hedge. The 105 km long land hedge, also known as Landwehr or Landfestung, enclosed around the middle of the 15th century to the mid-17th century, the Siegerland completely for protection against enemy raids.
