The estate was founded by Jan Haak Oosting (1749-1828). In 1789 he had acquired land on a long lease on the east side of the Beilerstraat and two years later he bought a part of the Asserbos across the street. The estate owes its name to the fact that the first stone milestone stood here (calculated from the Brink) along the post road.
