The Adventist Church was built in 1966-1967 on behalf of the psychiatric institution Licht en Kracht (nowadays General Psychiatric Hospital Drenthe) according to a design by the architects P.L. de Vrieze and A.M. Dekker from Groningen.
The church has a distinctive location on the edge of the park-like mental health care site. This site is surrounded by lots of greenery and trees, between which there is a pond and a fountain. The rear entrance of the church faces the mental health hospital and the main entrance faces the Assen-Oost district.
