The municipality of Wermsdorf has almost 6,000 inhabitants and is located around 40 km east of Leipzig. In the local cemetery there is a lovingly designed grave complex right next to the chapel. A brick obelisk towers over the 15 well-tended burial mounds in front of it. 15 soldiers and officers of the Red Army who died in the first days of May of 1945 in the vicinity of Wermsdorf rest here. A little later they were buried here by their comrades. The small tombs made of red painted wood and the simply designed obelisk were also placed shortly after the end of the war. This suggests not only the design, but also the Russian inscription on the plaque. This cemetery will be closed at the end of 2008 and the community is currently planning a redesign and reconstruction of the Soviet cemetery of honor.See stsg.de/cms/dokstelle/wermsdorf
