"The Schaeferwarte was built by the Drachenfels Club in 1929-30 in honor of economic advisor Karl Schaefer on the edge of the Halsberg forest. The building is still an ornament on this mountainside today. It was inaugurated on July 13, 1930.
The winery owner Karl Schaefer - born April 11, 1849, died February 28, 1931 - was a founding member and chairman of the Drachenfels Club for 32 years. He resigned from his post in 1927. Karl Schaefer was involved in the founding of the Drachenfels Club. He was selflessly active in the service of his homeland for over 50 years. A great deal was done at his suggestion and under his responsibility. His work as 1st chairman included, above all, the construction of the Bismarck Tower, which was extremely expensive for that time."
