According to information from locals, there were considerations at this point on the Nedaschützer scale (typical landscape form of a narrow valley) to build a dam wall. This should either serve as flood protection or supply water for the Boxberg power station. The visible tunnel was probably intended as a dam overflow. The other, opposite and walled up, was used for geological explorations.
