The Hausmann Tower dates back to the 12th century and measures 32 meters. It serves as the keep of the burgrave's castle and clearly towers above all other buildings. A continuous, brick-built spiral staircase leads to the top. The former watchman's quarters are still clearly discernible. The tower was originally surrounded by a curtain wall. Inside the base of the tower, a dungeon, accessible only from above through an opening in the floor, offers a vivid glimpse into harsh medieval practices. Similar lower levels served not only as castle dungeons but also as storage rooms during the Middle Ages.
