In the 12th and 13th centuries, there was already a wooden church on the square in Zandoerle. This first church was replaced by a chapel around 1250. After the Reformation, from 1672 to 1798, the chapel was used as a barn church. Roman Catholic services were held here.

The current chapel was put into use in 1807 and was restored around 1960.[1]

Since 1817, it has been customary to pray the rosary in the chapel.
