Marieke Duchatteau

Hi everyone!

I am Marieke, and I love being outdoors. Preferably going for a hike surrounded by peaceful nature, may that be in my own country (The Netherlands) or abroad. One of my other passions is writing, so for me being an editor for komoot is the best of both worlds. I hope to inspire you with varied Collections to go on adventures yourself and explore wonderful places.

Enjoy, and feel free to share your experiences!

After a night in Yerseke, it's worth taking a stroll through the village. And, say, do you know the Mosselman (Mussel Man)? No, not yet? Then, at the beginning of the route, step off the official path for a moment to meet him. The statue is the icon of the mussel and oyster village of Yerseke. Did you

Starting from Rilland, you once again follow the coast of the Oosterschelde, with breathtaking views of this unique national park. As Yerseke comes into view, the landscape slowly changes back into vast grasslands and farmland.

A nice stop along the way is the quiet beach of Roelshoek. Depending on whether

From Ossendrecht you walk back towards Zeeland. But apart from being near the provincial borders, you are also close to the border with Belgium here. The ideal place to have a cup of coffee at a border hotel. Then you can set off with good energy afterwards.

Along the way you pass the Bathse Spuisluis

Starting from Bergen op Zoom, you walk along Fort Waterschans, the city's oldest fortification. For centuries, this historical bulwark protected the entrance to the port, was subsequently used for various purposes, and has since been restored to its former glory.

Tholen has dozens of national monuments. Once you've seen a few, it's time to leave the characteristic town via the fortifications and the impressive Grote or Lievevrouwekerk. Take a deep breath of the Zeeland air, because later today you will set foot in Noord-Brabant.

The walk from Sint-Maartensdijk leads along a special nature reserve: De Pluimpot. This area is the last remnant of an old sea arm that once split the island of Tholen in two. After the channel was closed off, a quiet nature reserve was created that is today an important place for birds.

This stage once again follows the quiet paths and dikes along the Oosterschelde. The salty sea air is only interrupted by the village of Stavenisse, a welcome and pleasant stop today.

Along the route, you'll also encounter several places where you can relax. Idyllic jetties and special benches regularly
