In the far west of Denmark in Thyborøn is the snail shell (Sneglehuset). A unique house adorned with thousands of shells and snails. The house was created by one man who began building and decorating the snail shell in 1949 at the age of 58. A house that, through 25 years of work, became Alfred's life's work and celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2019.
There are two exhibitions in the house.

The snail shell in Thyborøn is a unique house, which is decorated inside and out with millions of shells and snails. Masonry and furniture are covered with ingenious patterns made from mussel shells and snail shells. The snail shell was built by fisherman Alfred Chr. Pedersen for his wife during his long life. It is located in Sneglevej (Schneckenstrasse), in the southwestern part of the city, not far from the campsite and the North Sea. The snail shell with its exhibition is a major attraction in the Vejlby Klit holiday home region and was even visited by the Danish royal family.

Ken Koustrup and Hanne Mette Kirkedal have been running the Sneglehuset since 2019. On site you can have a cup of coffee, a homemade croissant or a cinnamon roll (Kanelsnegle). The ice bar also offers delicious homemade ice cream cones. The small boutique (boutique) sells souvenirs, u. a. Snail shells, amber and pretty cardigans.

Parking spaces can be found right next to the snail shell. Or you can park your car a little further in the large parking lot of the Thyboron natural area in Digevej, directly behind West Jutland's coast on the North Sea. The parking lot is about a five-minute walk from the Sneglehuset.
