The cross commemorates Christoph von Wiedebach and Nostitz-Jänkendorf. He belonged to an old noble family from Upper Lusatia. His grandfather was Paul von Wiedebach and Nostitz-Jänkendorf, who was governor of the Prussian margraviate of Oberlausitz. Together with his father Harry and some relatives, Christoph was brought to Rügen at the age of 19 in autumn 1945 so as not to disturb the land reform on site. However, he was able to flee to West Germany, catch up with the family members who had remained in Thiemendorf and then returned to his old home after 1990.
