Bastion Sterrenburg was built between 1554 and 1558 in the time of Emperor Charles V. On the defensive canal, Charles V commissioned city architect Willem van Noort to build four stone strongholds based on the Italian fortification system. Sterrenburg was one of them. Nowadays it is used as an art studio.
