The history of the Pandhof goes back a long way. The oldest foundations date from the end of the fourteenth century. The Pandhof formed the connection between the Cathedral Church and the Great Chapter House.
The Pandhof also served as a burial place for Cathedral scholars and lay officials (those charged with the management of church property) and as a place for religious contemplation (closely related to meditation). The herb garden did not yet exist at that time. It was created in 1975, but it likely served as a vegetable garden for the Canons.
