The Oudegracht is the most famous canal in Utrecht. The approximately two kilometer long canal is the connecting piece between the Kromme Rijn and the Vecht. For centuries it was the main artery of the city. The system of yards and wharf cellars on the Oudegracht and Nieuwegracht in Utrecht is unique in the world.

The Oudegracht is the most famous canal in Utrecht and is about two kilometers long. Due to the numerous shipyard cellars, the canals of Utrecht are again very different from those of Amsterdam. In the second half of the twelfth century, the inhabitants of Utrecht came up with the idea of digging from the quay of tunnels to the dwellings along the canal. This is how the typical double wharves of Utrecht originated.
