Karl Adam (born May 2, 1912 in Vorhalle, today Hagen; † June 18, 1976 in Bad Salzuflen) was a German rowing coach. He was a co-founder of the Ratzeburg Rowing Club and the Ratzeburg Rowing Academy, which he headed from 1964 to 1976. He was also called the “rowing professor” from Lake Ratzeburg.
He trained the legendary "Ratzeburg eighth", who became Olympic champion in 1960 and 1968. Adam was made an honorary citizen of Ratzeburg in 1962.
From 1969 to 1976 he was the representative of the coaching body elected by the coaching committee for all sports on the board of the federal committee for competitive sports.

The innovative training methods of the "rowing professor" and the implementation of his scientific knowledge in boat building led to many successes of the Ratzeburg rowing athletes at national and international championships as well as to sensational Olympic victories.
In memory of Karl Adam and the winning of the first gold medal in the rowing eight at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, this memorial stone was placed in front of the Ratzeburg rowing club. It bears the following inscription:

"The structure of the service is the same in all areas".
