Behind Ratzeburg Town Hall, opposite the Fischerstube, is this beautiful viewpoint with plenty of seating.

These are the remains of the northwest bastion at the "Barlach View" built by Duke Georg-Wilhelm of Brunswick-Lüneburg.

Old cannons also stand here, testifying to the fact that this was once a strategically important defensive location.

This is a great place to stroll, relax, and enjoy the fantastic views.

The name "Barlach View" refers to the Ratzeburg artist Ernst Barlach
(1870-1938), who was a student at the Lauenburg School of Letters.

In his autobiography, "A Self-Told Life," he raved about this magnificent view over Lake Ratzeburg.
