Hiking Highlight (Segment)
The Garrensee seems to have fallen out of time. Hidden, green shimmering, clear, deep and very clean. Three open, sandy swimming spots, very natural, lure you to cool off in the hot summer. Two rowing boats are also at leisure. A wonderful path leads around the lake, on the west side it is a very hidden path high on the crest of the Garrenseerinne with an always wonderful view over the lake.

Together with the neighboring Plötscher See and the Schwarze Kuhle the Garrensee lies in a glacial valley, i. in an area on a mainland that is lower than sea level and therefore has no runoff. A glacier near Ratzeburg has covered dead ice blocks with its melt water with slightly inclined alluvial cones. From the melted ice formed the three named lakes. Since the lakes have no runoff, dead plants sink to the ground. A very nice hiking trail leads around the Garrensee, which I can highly recommend.
