Began use: 1938 as Nekami Groeve, later expanded and operated by various companies, most recently by Sibelco.
Geological feature: The layers date back to the Cretaceous period and include limestone formations such as Meerssen, Nekum, and Gronsveld.
Fossils & Rocks: The region features deposits from various geological eras, including loess, Maasgrind, and Tongrien sands.
