A striking feature of this road is the broad straight structure of about 300 meters that cuts through the hill. The hollow road is located in a valley between two iron sand quarries and leads to the top of the Wijngaardberg. This dirt road is strongly cut and is guided along both walls by a row of ascending beeches. The road is depicted on the Atlas der Buurtwegen (1843-1845) and since then also on later historical maps. This road connects the main road Leuven-Aarschot at the foot of the mountain with the plots on the plateau. The hollow road runs straight up the slope and thus forms the shortest route up.

Hollow roads have their own microclimate. In these sunken roads it is always fresh and humid. The vegetation here is different than on the southern slopes. The Hollow Roads lead us to the north side of the Wijngaardberg. There you will enter a Cathedral Forest.
