The Devil's Hole is located in an abandoned quarry, 500 m southeast of the Esterhàzy forest edge settlement, south of Loretto. The excavation was created here by targeted mining of porous Leitha limestone under a more compact cover, also made from Leitha limestone. During the Russian occupation in World War II, part of the local population (women and children) hid in the Teufelsloch for 14 days.
