The Rosenstraße in the former Marienviertel is one of the oldest streets in Berlin. Here was the first synagogue of the city from 1714 until its destruction in World War II. The adjoining administrative building was the scene of a unique act of civil resistance in the time of National Socialism, to which the sculptor Ingeburg Hunzinger dedicated this monument.
