The Weser weir decouples the Weser from the tidal range (ebb and flow) of the North Sea. It was built from 1995 to 1999 and is the successor to a previous building a few hundred meters upstream. In addition to its further function as a hydroelectric power station, it serves as a promising transition for walkers, runners and cyclists.
