    Hiking

The Mehlinger Heath was completely covered with forest until 1912. In 1937, deforestation started on the Großer Fröhnerhof. Already in 1938 the first military exercises took place. The military practice with permanent ground injuries promoted the emergence of the heath. It formed a mosaic of vegetation-free sandy areas, grasslands, shrub heaths and forest stands.
