    The meaning of a stupa
A stupa is a symbolic representation of the mind of a Buddha. Stupas are often built in places where many people pass by, such as street intersections. A carefully constructed stupa is said to have a strong positive impact on the surrounding area. It appeases negative forces and promotes harmony and peace among beings. That is why the term Schanti Stupa is used, which means peace monument.
The stupa on the Letze was built in 1987 in memory of Gesche Rabten Rinpotsche. Many people from different parts of society took part in the preparation and execution of the construction. The new word “Stupa” soon became known. Since every "German" word also needs an article, a suitable article had to be found for "Stupa". The language skills of academically educated people preferred “the stupa”. However, Sanskritologists warned that it must be "the stupa" because Sanskrit words are masculine in "a". But the craftsmen also knew what they were building, namely “the Letzehof stupa”. And so the Letzehof Stupa remains: objective and neutral, a symbol of the enlightened spirit.

The Letzehof has been home to Tibetan monks for many years. In recent decades, the courtyard has been expanded into a monastery with a guest house, kitchen, stupa and library. A very spiritual place. For stillness and calm, love, compassion and well-being.
