The old mill in Tisis has a history of almost 600 years
The old Tisner mill was first mentioned in a document in 1434 as the lower mill and closed in 1969. Traces of destruction down to the foundation walls by a fire around 1700 and then another partial fire around 1750 can be detected. The Obere Mühle stood around 200 meters above the former Engel inn in Gallmist; it no longer exists today. The drive of the lower mill came from the combination of the Letze-, Gallmist- and Rappenwaldbaches (water hole) at the point where the Tisner Weiher is today. The mill and the “water hole” were bought by the Jesuits of Stella Matutina in 1860 and built a swimming pool there. The mill was leased and operated by the Schäfer family from 1911 until it was closed in 1969. Most of the grist was bought by the Jesuits of Stella.
