The Erasmus Bridge, as a cable-stayed bridge (angled pylon) with a length of about 800 m, spans the city of Rotterdam with the southern districts for road traffic and trams. In the southern part it can be opened over a width of about 90 m for larger ships as a lift bridge. it was built in 1997 and is considered a symbol of the city.

The Erasmus Bridge was designed by Ben van Berkel (UNStudio) and completed in 1996. The 802-meter-long cable-stayed bridge has a 139-meter-high bent asymmetric steel mast, to which the bridge is nicknamed "De Zwaan" (the swan).
Between the Kop van Zuid and the pylon is an 89-meter-long bascule bridge for ships that can not pass under the cable-stayed bridge. This bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest bascule bridge in Western Europe.
