In the forest near Kornbach there is still a relic from the time of the Black Death: the Pestilence Garden. It was created as a mass grave for plague victims during the 30 Years' War. A terrible wave of plague hit Kornbach at that time, which almost caused the village to die out. Getting plague victims out of settlements was a first step toward containing the disease.
But it is also a mystical place: the great Druid bowl is said to always run dry when terrible disasters come to humanity. It is said to have been dry for the last time in the summer of 1939.

About one kilometer from the town of Kornbach is the so-called Pestilence Garden. Many victims of the plague were buried here during the Thirty Years' War and if you look closely you can still guess what remains of the cemetery wall.

In the middle there is a wooden cross and there is the sacrificial tub - or druid stone - which is said to be able to predict great wars. If the deepening of the stone is dry, another great war is brewing; before the two world wars the bowl is said to have been empty for the last time.

Even in dry years there would always be water in the bowl and legend has it that it was artificially drained and even though the bowl has no inlet, the water would be there the next day.

        Druid bowl near Kornbach
On the Riedelberg near Kornbach is the Druid Bowl in the middle of the forest.
This bowl is a very special place.
During the Thirty Years' War, many residents were buried there due to the plague. That is why some call it the pestilence garden. You can even see the cemetery wall there.
The bowl has magical powers because it can predict wars: If there is no more water in the bowl, then the time has come and there will be a world war. (The bowl had been without water before WWI and WWII.)
People removed the water from the bowl, but the next day it was full again ... How this could happen cannot be explained, because it has no natural inlet and outlet.
So watch out if you go there! Kind of a mystical place.
