The Ochsenkopf transmitter is a 191.5 meter high reinforced concrete television tower that has been located on the summit of the Ochsenkopf in the Fichtelgebirge since 1958. Analogue radio (VHF), digital radio (DAB) and digital television (DVB-T) are broadcast from the transmission mast. It also serves as a directional radio node.

The Ochsenkopf transmission mast was built to replace a 50 meter high guyed tubular steel mast that collapsed in January 1958 due to icing. Despite the curvature of the earth, it has a direct line of sight to the Kreuzberg transmitter in the Rhön, about 135.3 kilometers away.
The transmitter tower on the Ochsenkopf is the tallest building in the administrative district of Upper Franconia. The top of the mast is the highest landmark in Franconia at approx. 1,206 m above sea level. This means that the landmark is only 50 m higher than that of the Kreuzberg in the Rhön.

Ox head antenna or simply ox head was the colloquial name in the south of the GDR for a television antenna in private households intended to receive western television. Their design and size was designed to receive the ARD television program broadcast from the Ochsenkopf, a mountain in the Bavarian Fichtelgebirge.

Very beautiful (surrounded by much "green") ascent to Ochsenkopf, but with some many roots on the way, so sure-footedness and sturdy shoes is essential.
