Until the beginning of the 20th century, the manor belonged to the Counts of Hompesch Bohlheim and Rurich. After his death, around 1920, it was acquired by the Schlick brothers from Pesch from the Hompesch estate. The estate continues to be inhabited by descendants of the Schlick family until the year 2022.

The agricultural business has been permanently leased since 1993 and has not been managed by the owners since that time.

The castle was the seat of the family of the same name, from which Engebrand and Wilhelm von Rurich were first mentioned in a document in 1248. In the middle of the 15th century, the castle at that time came to the family of Zweibrüggen through marriage, whose members, like those of all other genders, called themselves “von Rurich”. Through marriage, this time to Sophia von Rurich with Heinrich von Reuschenberg (later to zu Eicks), the property came to his family in 1517.

Really quite a large castle with some buildings.
We did not find any information about whether tours are possible in or around the castle.
The access to the castle grounds is somewhat inconspicuous, very close to a roundabout in Rurich.
We were on the castle grounds, but we didn't see anyone and didn't discover any further signs that would suggest a visit.
