The 51 m long and 16.36 m wide arched brick bridge with arch widths of 7.5, 17.5 and 7.5 m[1] connects Admiralitätsstraße and Rödingsmarkt. It was built between 1883 and 1885 according to the plans of senior engineer Franz Andreas Meyer.
The bridge is named after the Holy Spirit Hospital which used to be east of this bridge. The building is listed as cultural monument no. 11853 (formerly 530) in the list of cultural monuments of the city of Hamburg.
