Dicke Berta Lighthouse

The "Dicke Berta" is a 13 meter high lighthouse in Cuxhaven's Altenbruch district. The tower was built in 1897 together with two other lighthouses, the "Slim Anna" and another in Neufeld. In 1983, the fat Berta was taken out of service and replaced by a new, modern lighthouse with automatic operation. As the fat lady was not lacking in charm, she was extensively restored by the members of the Förderverein Dicke Berta e.V. and is now a listed building. You can still visit the museum lighthouse today and even take a guided tour. A narrow spiral staircase takes you up to the circular floors, transporting you back to the exciting days of beacons and lighthouses: From the gas cylinder and material storage area, you'll find the tower keepers' quarters, complete with bunks, and, of course, the most exciting floor: the lamp room with its 300/500-watt light bulb and spherical lens. Here, you'll have a perfect panoramic view and are guaranteed to feel free and otherworldly. And right here in this room, with its incredible view and dreamy atmosphere, since 2002, you can officially exchange vows at a lofty height. What better way to navigate the storms and shoals of marriage than with the help of a lighthouse? From Easter Saturday to the end of September:
